An Ottoman Author Ayyûb Sabri Pasha’s Conception of Prophet Muhammad
The aim of our study is to investigate the process of authorship (sîra) about the Prophet Muhammad’s life from the early period and to bring to life appearing of that authorship (sîra) on Ottoman Turks. In this context, we concentrate on the book, called Mahmoud al-Sîra, belonging to Ayyûb Sabri Pasha, one of Ottoman commanders. In General, Turks feel the most deeply the love directed towards the Prophet Muhammad. For this reason they have worked to reach honor of writing his sample life in the historical process. Ayyûb Sabri Pasha, one of Ottoman writers, is one of writers his sample life. This study is planned as introduction and two chapters. In introduction informed about early the process of authorship (sîra) about the Prophet Muhammad’s life and investigated Turkish sîras. In the first chapter we focus on life and works of Ayyûb Sabri Pasha, writer of Mahmoud al-Sîra, historian, man of letters, government official, and admiral. The main subject of our thesis consists of second chapter. In this chapter we investigated and analyzed the book called Mahmoud al-Sîra written Ottoman Turkish language. In this context we dwell on the aim of being written of the book, its content, style, method and sources. In the conclusion, Ayyûb Sabri Pasha, his work and its characteristics were evaluated for the sake of shading light on present and paving the way for new studies.
