Bakillani’s Approach to the Issue of Faith and Kufr
In this study, the life of Bâkıllânî, who systemized the Ash’arî school, and his views on belief and blasphem were searched. In this context, due to the importance of the concepts of faith and unbelief in theology, these two concepts were emphasized. Again, how these two concepts were understood from the early period, their contents and what the boundary between belief and disbelief was according to the schools of theology were investigated. In this context, the truth and content of faith, the subject of major sin, the status of sin, the requirements of faith and again the situations related to blasphemy have been tried to be determined according to the schools of theology and Bakillani.
According to Bāqıllânî, his views on the concepts of faith and disbelief, the content and types of faith, the relationship between faith and deeds, the situation of those who commit major sins, and the border between faith and disbelief were examined. In this context, it is seen that Bakillani made a clear distinction between faith and unbelief and especially stayed away from a perspective that would lead to unbelief on this issue. Because, according to him, a believer does not leave the religion because of the sin he commits, that is, he does not become an unbeliever, and therefore, as long as the state of confirmation continues, he cannot be declared an unbeliever.
