İslam tarihinde siyasî, sosyal ve dinî ayrışmaların sebeplerinin tespit edilmesi ve bu ayrışmaların somut bir şekilde ortaya çıkışına sahne olan hadiselerin doğru anlaşılması bakımından Emeviler dönemi ayrı bir öneme sahiptir. Zira bu dönem, iktidar ile muhalefet ilişkilerinin belirginleştiği, farklı muhalif hareketlerin ortaya çıktığı ve bu hareketlerin sonraki dönemlerde İslam düşünce ve siyaset anlayışının şekillenmesinde etkili olduğu bir süreç olmuştur. Bu sebeple Emeviler dönemindeki iktidar-muhalefet ilişkilerinin doğru bir şekilde tespit edilmesi, erken dönem İslam tarihinin anlaşılması açısından göz ardı edilemeyecek kadar önemli bir etkendir. Bu çalışmada, Emevi iktidarına karşı ortaya çıkan muhalif hareketler tarihî süreç içerisinde ele alınmış; bu hareketlerin ortaya çıkış sebepleri, meşruiyet dayanakları, iktidara yönelttikleri eleştiriler ve benimsedikleri mücadele yöntemleri incelenmiştir. Bu çerçevede Ehl-i Beyt taraftarları, Hariciler, Mevali, Abdullah b. Zübeyr hareketi ve dönemin uleması başta olmak üzere Emevi iktidarına muhalefet eden farklı grup ve şahıslar değerlendirilmiştir. Bunun yanında Emevi yönetiminin söz konusu muhalif hareketlere karşı takip ettiği siyasi politikalar ve muhalefeti sınırlandırmaya yönelik uygulamaları da ele alınmıştır. Araştırmada başta klasik İslâm tarihi kaynakları olmak üzere konuya dair temel eserlerden istifade edilmiş; rivayetler, tarihî bağlamı, dönemin şartları, anlayışı ve değer yargıları dikkate alınarak değerlendirilmiştir. Elde edilen veriler, Emeviler döneminde ortaya çıkan muhalefetin yalnızca siyasi sebeplerle açıklanamayacağını; sosyal, ekonomik ve dinî unsurların yanı sıra önceki dönemlerden tevarüs edilen siyasi ve fikri anlayışların da bu sürecin şekillenmesinde etkili olduğunu göstermektedir. Dolayısıyla ilgili dönemde ortaya çıkan muhalif hareketlerin incelenmesi hem Emevi yönetiminin siyasi yapısının hem de sonraki dönemlerde şekillenen İslam düşünce ve siyaset geleneğinin daha doğru anlaşılmasına önemli katkılar sunmaktadır.

Opposition in the Umayyad Caliphate
In Islamic history, the Umayyad period holds particular significance for
identifying the causes of political, social, and religious divisions and for
properly understanding the events in which these divisions assumed
concrete form. It was a period in which the relationship between ruler
and opposition came into sharp definition, in which a range of dissenting
movements emerged, and in which those movements went on to influence
the shaping of Islamic political and intellectual thought in later
eras. For this reason, an accurate account of the relationship between
authority and opposition under the Umayyads is a factor too important
to overlook in any effort to understand early Islamic history.
This study examines the opposition movements that arose against Umayyad
rule within their historical context, investigating their origins,
their bases of legitimacy, the criticisms they leveled against those in
power, and the modes of struggle they adopted. Within this framework,
it considers the various groups and figures who opposed Umayyad
authority, foremost among them the partisans of the Ahl al-Bayt, the
Kharijites, the Mawali, the movement of Abd Allah ibn al-Zubayr, and
the scholars of the period. It further addresses the political strategies
the Umayyad administration pursued in response to these movements,
along with the measures it employed to curtail dissent.
The research draws on the principal works devoted to the subject, chief
among them the classical sources of Islamic history, and the relevant
accounts are assessed with due regard for their historical context and
for the circumstances, mindset, and value judgments of the age. The
evidence indicates that the opposition emerging under the Umayyads
cannot be explained by political causes alone; beyond social, economic,
and religious factors, the political and intellectual frameworks inherited
from earlier periods also shaped the course it took. Studying the
opposition movements of this period therefore makes a meaningful
contribution to a more accurate understanding both of the political
structure of Umayyad governance and of the tradition of Islamic political
and intellectual thought that took form in the periods that followed.
