Mesnevîhanlık geleneğini konu edinen bu çalışma, Mevlânâ’nın Mesnevîsinin yazıldığı dönemden itibaren tasavvuf tarihinde üstlendiği ilim ve irşad fonksiyonunu hem tarihsel hem de kurumsal boyutlarını ortaya koymayı amaçlamaktadır. Çalışmada bu geleneğin Mevleviyye tarîkatı içinde teşekkülünden itibaren Osmanlı dönemi boyunca geçirdiği kurumsallaşma süreci, farklı tarîkat çevrelerine yayılımı ve modern dönemdeki dönüşümü bütüncül bir yaklaşımla ele alınmaktadır. Bu yaklaşımla birlikte Mesnevîhanlığın sıradan bir metin okuma faaliyeti olmayıp, ilim, irşad ve tasavvufî eğitimi içine alan çok yönlü bir eğitim modeli olduğu ortaya konulmaktadır. Çalışmada konuyla ilgili kaynaklar bir arada değerlendirilmekte, Mesnevîhanların takrir usûlleri, derslerin yürütüldüğü mekanlar ve derslere katılan kesimler detaylı bir şekilde ele alınmaktadır. Ayrıca Mesnevîhanlık geleneğinin Mevlevîlik sınırlarında kalmayıp Nakşibendiyye ve Saʿdiyye gibi tarikatlarda kurumsal düzeyde, Halvetî ve Melâmî bazı isimler tarafından ise şahsî gayretlerle sürdürüldüğü üzerinde durulmaktadır. Mesnevî takrir geleneğinin tarîkatlar arası yayılımını gösteren bu durum sonunda derslerin okutulduğu Dârü’l-Mesnevî adında müstakil bir eğitim kurumunun ortaya çıktığı da görülmektedir. Türkiye’de 1925’te tekke ve zâviyelerin kapatılmasıyla kendi aslî mekanlarını kaybeden Mesnevîhanlık geleneği, bu süreçte yeni mekanlarda varlığını sürdürmeye çalışmıştır. Modern döneme gelindiğinde ise derslere katılan kitle, derslerin icrâ edildiği mekanlar ve temsil tarzları açısından bazı dönüşümler geçirmiştir. Bu çalışma böylece Mesnevîhanlık geleneğini temsili, sürekliliği ve dönüşümü üzerinden ele alarak sistematik bir değerlendirme yapmayı ve alandaki literatüre katkı sunmayı hedeflemektedir.

The Mathnawīkhānī Tradition
Representation, Continuity and Transformation
This study examines the tradition of Mathnawīkhānī (the tradition of
teaching and commenting on Rūmī’s Mathnawī) and aims to present
both the historical and institutional dimensions of the scholarly and
spiritual guidance functions that Rūmī’s Mathnawī has fulfilled in the
history of Sufism since its composition. The study addresses, in a holistic
manner, the process of institutionalization of this tradition within the
Mawlawiyya order during the Ottoman period, its dissemination into
other Sufi orders, and its transformation in the modern era. Through
this approach, it is demonstrated that the tradition of Mathnawīkhānī
was not merely an activity of reading a text, but rather a multifaceted
educational model encompassing scholarship, spiritual guidance, and
Sufi education. Relevant sources are evaluated collectively, and the instructional
methods of Mathnawīkhāns, the venues where the lessons
were conducted, and the social groups who attended these lessons are
discussed in detail. The study also emphasizes that the Mathnawīkhānī
tradition did not remain confined to the boundaries of the Mawlawiyya
order; it was institutionally maintained within orders such as the Naqshbandiyya
and Saʿdiyya, and continued through the personal efforts of
certain figures within the Khalwatiyya and Melāmiyya traditions. As a
result of this inter-order dissemination, an independent educational institution
known as Dār al-Mathnawī emerged, where these lessons were
formally conducted. Following the closure of Sufi lodges in Türkiye, in
1925, the Mathnawīkhānī tradition lost its original institutional settings
and sought to sustain its existence in new venues. In the modern period,
it has transformed in its audience, the spaces where lessons are held,
and its modes of representation. Thus, this study seeks to provide a
systematic evaluation of the Mathnawīkhānī tradition through its representation,
continuity, and transformation, and aims to contribute to
the existing literature in the field.
