Conservative and Social Change
The Journal of Conservative Thought
Accustomed motive of protection and desire for renaissance are two
main qualities that exist in every human being. Curiosity for what is
new, the pleasure that what is new brings, the worry about the current
situation to disappear and the possibility that the upcoming situation
may be detrimental are some of the situations that are experienced by
every person. These two existing characteristics of human nature paved
the way for rise of conventions such as conservatism and social change.
In Turkish society, the development of these conventions occured in a
chronologic periyod and via periodicals such as journals. Journal, has
been an indispensable choice of thinkers because of the fact that it focuses
on the main subject and it approaches the innovations on that topic
in time, systematically.
The Journal of Conservative Thought which is the main subject of our
study is shaped on the concepts of conservatism and social change. In
Turkish Literature, this journal is the printed resource in which conservatism
is discussed in the most detailed and extensive way. It includes
large amount of information on social change and especially on the modernization
of Turkish society. For this reason, the study, with the context
of journal, aims to do research on the basis of socio-cultural themes,
such as reason, individual, family, religion, society, property, authority,
change, custom and morals which are the basis of every society. This
study aims to exhibit the concept of social change in Turkey within the
context of the journal and to determine the conservatist reflexs against
this idea. This study is a reading on Turkey from the perspective of interpretive
Sociology and within the scope of the study, content analysis
method was used.
