Okur Öldü mü? -Kitabın ve Okumanın Biyopolitik Tarihi-
“Okur Öldü mü?” kitabı, okumanın tarihsel, felsefi ve politik boyutlarını biyopolitika çerçevesinde sorgulayan derinlikli bir çalışmadır. Emrullah Zorlu, kitabın sadece bir bilgi taşıyıcısı olmadığını, aynı zamanda birey-toplum-devlet üçgeninde kurulan iktidar ilişkilerinin sahnesi olduğunu ileri sürer. Emrullah Zorlu argues that books are not mere containers of information but are sites where power relations between the individual, society, and the state are enacted. Spanning oral cultures to written traditions, from sacred scriptures to the modern nation-state’s reader project, and from disciplinary libraries to the algorithm-driven attention economy, the book explores reading not just as an individual act but as a mechanism of control.
Zorlu charts the transformation of the reader from a passive recipient of divine messages to the disciplined figure of the modern citizen, and finally to the algorithm-trained data consumer of the digital age. He analyzes the politics of recitation (tilavet), historical bans on women’s reading, the ideological function of the printing press, state efforts to manufacture ideal readers, and the hyperreality of postmodern libraries.
Following the intellectual paths of Derrida, Foucault, Barthes, and Plato, the book demonstrates how writing undermined memory, how voice was flattened into text, and meaning reduced to simulacra. Rather than praising reading or romanticizing the book, the work questions who reads, how, and within which structures of authority.
Zorlu’s narrative is not a guide to better reading habits but a philosophical lament. It is less a manifesto and more a eulogy. Perhaps the reader is dead — but the book still whispers to their ghost.
