ILMIHALK
-A Practical Religion
İlmihalk was formed by combining the words İlmihâl and halk (people).
Published in late 2024 under the auspices of Fajr Publishing, the fourbook
ilmihal was academic in format, with footnotes and bibliography.
Based on the suggestions of competent people who read the book that it
could have been a book with a simpler narrative, I decided to publish it as
a single book, without footnotes and bibliography, under the name ilmihalk.
In this form, I decided to publish a text suitable for the consumption
of modern people, with a simple narrative and deep meaning, including a
footnote-free version of the ilmihall books and a part of the forthcoming
book ilmixalk (ilmiḫalk-existence and fiqh). In this form, ilmihalk can be
understood as “the people’s ilmihal”. I have defined it as a book for a person
who has picked up a book once in his life, thought about a question, and
tried to contemplate for an hour to solve a problem. I have tried to write/
edit this book as much as I can at a level that anyone who wants to read a
book. The sources of what is written in this book have been mentioned in
the books of ilmihall. Therefore, the accusation of “writing as one pleases”
would be redundant. Since the audiences for the ilmihall and ilmihalk
books are different, each of them will develop and change in its own way.
This is not an analog or competitor to the catechism of the Diyanet. It is a
book of background and preliminary preparation, indicating what needs to
be known and taken into account in order to understand and evaluate the catechism.
It is not written to answer the questions “How do I pray?” but rather
“Why and why do I pray, should I pray, should I not pray?” for today’s people.
