Education and Religious Education Between East and West -Teachings of Aliya Izetbegovic-
Alija Izetbegovic is one of the important figures who left his mark on the 20th century and fought with his people for universal human and Islamic values with his knowledge and experience, leadership and political personality. Many studies have been conducted to understand Izetbegovic’s struggle and to understand his various ideas. In this study, their thoughts about education and religious education were discussed with a different method. In order to understand Izetbegovic’s systematic thought and the basic dynamics that shape his practical life, it is necessary to try to understand the formation of his world of thought and the reasons that shape it. The first area to be researched for this is Bosnia’s geographical location, population structure, distant and recent history. Secondly, it is imperative that we consider his life in all its stages, considering our subject. Although it is not seen that Izetbegovic’s works include much theoretical education and religious education and training, the abundance of his messages about education and training at all stages of his life, which are discussed in the first part, attracts attention. According to him, being uneducated or incorrectly educated lies at the root of the moral collapse of humanity. Although it points out the differences and similarities between the West and the East, its main purpose is to get rid of the collapse in the Islamic world. Realities at the center of life such as education, school, women, family, individual, society, economy and politics should be reinterpreted and Islamically. Concepts such as religion, science, art, literature, history, morality, responsibility and freedom consciousness should be handled with a new understanding and used in the construction of a new generation, free from the Western complex.
