Idyll (Volga) Bulgarian State and its Legal Structure

The Idyll (Volga) Bulgar State was an important Turkish state that was established in the 10th century and lasted until the 13th century. The historical significance of this state is based on several prominent factors. In 922, the Bulgars of Idil adopted Islam, marking a turning point in their history. With the acceptance of Islam, profound changes were made in the legal domain, and a new societal perspective emerged by blending these changes with existing cultural elements. The Volga Bulgar State is also notable for being one of the earliest Turkish-Islamic states. Furthermore, the geographical location of Idil, situated at the northernmost edge of the Caliphate and the Islamic world, added a distinct strategic and cultural value to the region. This position created a noticeable difference not found in other Islamic territories and laid the foundation for the development of the region’s unique characteristics.
