Hadith and the Tradition of Science and Knowledge From Maveraunnehir to Anatolia
Maveraunnehir, was an important center for the spread and development of sciences in the Islamic world. The region draws attention as a geography that both intensifies the interaction between civilizations and paves the way for the development of various scientific disciplines. Especially in the ninth and tenth centuries, in cities such as Samarkand, Bukhara, and Termez, important studies were carried out in mathematics, astronomy, medicine and philosophy in addition to works on Islamic sciences. The scholars who grew up in these lands made great contributions to both the deepening of Islamic thought and the transmission of scientific heritage to the next generations. The geography of Maveraunnehir constituted an important development area in both the theoretical and practical dimensions of Islamic sciences.
The transfer of this civilization to the Anatolian geography and the impact it left here was brought to the agenda again with the “International Symposium on Hadith and the Tradition of Science/Inspiration from Maveraunnehir to Anatolia” held at Çankırı Karatekin University on May 27-28, 2024. The symposium provided a wide international interaction with the participation of scientists from many countries such as Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Jor- dan, Iraq, Morocco, United Arab Emirates. In addition, over thirty scholars from Turkey presented papers. More than seventy papers presented in person and on- line at the Symposium shed light on the in-depth study of the scholarly and cultural heritage of the region.
This book, which contains forty-five full texts of the scholars who contributed to the symposium face-to-face and online from Turkey and abroad, which were deemed appropriate for publication by the editors, has been brought together as a scientific compilation. The papers are written in different languages and published in a single format, and the bibliographies of the authors are included in the book in their original form. This study has made an important contribution to understanding the historical and cultural ties by following the traces of the Maveraunnehir civilization.
