Verses Related to Worship
Humankind, created as the most honorable of creation, was sent to this world to attain, as Sufis put it, knowledge of God. This ideal reached its peak in the Companions who received the teachings of the last Prophet during the Age of Bliss. However, as the era of revelation moved away, a worldly inclination and certain decays began to emerge in society. Seeing this, Sufis sought to counter this situation and develop a method of education. In this context, they attempted to interpret verses and hadiths according to this method they developed. In fact, after the sciences acquired an independent identity, theologians focused their interpretations on verses related to faith, jurists on the outward actions of the body, and Sufis on the inward actions of the heart. This book attempts to demonstrate, using an interdisciplinary method, how Sufis interpreted verses related to outward actions according to their own dispositions and spiritual states. Furthermore, it provides the interpretations of some prominent exegetes whose jurisprudence closely aligns with and closely resembles those of the Sufis, and compares the interpretations of exegetical and esoteric scholars.
