Molla Halil al-Siirdi and His Two Treatises Er-Risalat al-Vad'iyya and Er-Risalat al-Istiara
Madrasas in Islamic civilization have made significant contributions, leaving a profound impact on our educational and cultural life. Some of the scholars trained in these institutions have educated students, while others have produced significant works, playing a leading role in the formation of our cultural and civilized life.
One of these scholars, Molla Halil al-Siirdi, a prominent representative of the late Ottoman tradition of compilation, commentary, and annotation, made significant contributions to the classical tradition of scholarship through both his scholarly personality and his compilations and collections. An encyclopedic author, Molla Halil al-Siirdi authored over forty works on nearly every discipline of Islamic sciences.
This study examines the life and works of Molla Khalil al-Siirdi, as well as his works on the science of "wad," which examines the relationship between word and meaning, al-Risālatu'l-Wad'iyya, and al-Risālatu'l-Isti'ara, a partial translation of Abu'l-Qasim al-Samarkandī's al-Risālatu'l-Farīda, which examines the types of metaphor, and provides necessary explanations regarding these works. Furthermore, the fundamental topics and concepts of these disciplines of Arabic language and rhetoric are explained in concise terms.
