Mormons of Latter-Day Saints
One of the movements that emerged claiming to revive true Christianity, and perhaps the most intriguing, is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, founded by Joseph Smith in North America in the first half of the 19th century. Also known as the Church of Mormons, this movement pioneered a religious philosophy that blended Judaism and Christianity, combining Jewish discourses such as the gathering of the tribes of Israel and the restoration of Zion, with Christian concepts and discourses such as the saviorship and deity of Jesus.
The beliefs and teachings of the Mormon Church, shaped by the ideas of Joseph Smith, were met with considerable interest and opposition within American society at the time, and this reaction led to Mormons being subjected to violence in various parts of the country. During this period, Joseph Smith, the movement's leader, was killed, and the Mormons settled in Utah and its surrounding areas, which were then outside government control and not yet open to settlement, establishing their own theocratic society. However, the United States' oppression of the Mormons continued there, and this society was forced to conform with mainstream American society through political, social, and legal measures.
